The «2Т»
system Above Ground Storage Tank Floor
Scanning System is based on the principles of Low Frequency Electromagnetic
Technique (LFET). It is designed to quickly and accurately inspect ferrous
above ground storage tank floors.
The 2T system uses
scanners that have 16 or 64 pickup sensors equally spaced to scan flat surfaces
covering 4”
(102mm) and 13”
(330mm) swaths per pass. A 16- channel/16-sensor scanner called the 2T., is
used for hard to reach areas such as sumps/pumps and under heating coils and
internal piping as well as the annular ring. A 32-channel/64-sensor scanner
called the Mark II, is a workhorse used for intermediate or average sized
tanks. All scanners work from one electronics platform and can be used
interchangeably.
Other methods used
for inspecting aboveground storage tanks are Magnetic Flux Leakage and
Ultrasonic Testing. The Magnetic Flux Leakage method uses permanent magnets,
which adds unnecessary weight. It also requires a cleaner floor surface
(sandblast), which causes the customer to spend additional money for cleaning.
In addition, Magnetic Flux Leakage cannot determine whether a flaw is on the
top surface or bottom surface of the tank floor and cannot test through
coatings. The U.T. method again requires a cleaner floor surface and is very
time consuming due to the lack of surface area which can be scanned at a time.
Low Frequency
Electromagnetic Technique on the other hand, does not use permanent magnets,
requires minimal floor preparation, is lightweight (under 30 lbs), and is easy to
handle and transport. It tests through coatings, determines top surface flaws
from bottom surface flaws, and continues to show flaw responses even after the
unit has stopped moving.
The «2Т» system has
many packages available based on your inspection needs. These other packages
can include the Hawkeye system for weld inspection, the Viper crawler system
for wall or shell inspection, and remotely operated scanners for tank roof
inspection.
